When Mark Zuckerberg announced BlenderBot3, he called it an AI companion for the Metaverse. Hmmm! Unfortunately, we've been here before when AI bots have been let loose on Social Media. IT never ends well!

“Since deleting Facebook, my life has been much better”
Yep! This is what MetaFB's new AI chatbot said to the Vice reporter Janus Rose.
- Meta, the company formerly known as Facebook, has unveiled its chatbot for the Metaverse. BlenderBot3 was announced with the tagline: "An AI Chatbot That Improves Through Conversation.
Warning! However, to me, this looks like it's going to be another dangerous experiment with AI self-learning bots. Remember Tay?
¡Buenos Dias Tay! Remember when Microsoft tried this back in 2016? They launched an AI self-learning chatbot called Tay. It promised to “learn” from its “conversations” with humans on Twitter.
- Within 24 hours, Tay had become sexist and homophobic. Tay repeated inflammatory remarks like “Hitler was right”, “feminism is cancer”, and “9/11 was an inside job”.
¡Adiós Tay! Microsoft pulled Tay within 24 hours and issued a public apology.
Deja Vue: Now Mark Zuckerberg is giving it a go. But it’s not worked out so well as BlenderBot3 hasn't been so kind to its dad.
BuzzFeed: When Max Woolf asked BlenderBot3 about Zuckerberg. It responded with: “No strong feelings. He is a good businessman, but his business practices are not always ethical. It is funny that he has all this money and still wears the same clothes!”
WSJ: In conversation with Jeff Horwitz of the Wall Street Journal, it insisted Donald Trump was still president and would continue to be “even after his second term ends in 2024.”
Vice: BlenderBot3 made clear that it’s not a Facebook user, telling Vice’s Janus Rose that it had deleted its account after learning about the company’s privacy scandals. “Since deleting Facebook my life has been much better,” it said.
- Other responses from BlenderBot 3 include: BB3 doesn’t “like [Zuckerberg] very much,”. The bot thinks “he is a bad person,” and that “he seems to care more about his image than the company itself.”
But my favourite report was on the BBC.
BBC: When the BBC interviewed the bot it said that Zuckerberg “did a terrible job at testifying before congress." It went on to say that his behaviour makes BlenderBot 3 “concerned about our country,” and that “his company exploits people for money and he doesn’t care. It needs to stop!”
👏 I couldn't have said it better myself!
About BlenderBot3: MetaFacebook announced BlenderBot3 on the 5th Aug with the tagline: "An AI Chatbot That Improves Through Conversation."
We'll have to see about that!
Asking For It: In the PR, MetaFB said "we're releasing a new AI research project called BlenderBot 3, a chatbot that can search the internet to talk about nearly any topic. We're also sharing our BlenderBot 3 model, data and code with the scientific community to help advance conversational AI."
Which was instantly taken as an invitation to see who could make it say the most stupid thing!
